AC (Alternating Current)

AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction)

The local organization or government agency responsible for approving electrical installations and enforcing building and electrical codes.

B

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

A battery system that stores excess solar energy for later use, backup power, or load shifting.

BOS (Balance of System)

All solar system components other than the PV modules, including wiring, mounting hardware, inverters, disconnects, and electrical equipment.

C

C&I (Commercial and Industrial)

Solar installations serving businesses, industrial facilities, schools, municipalities, and other nonresidential applications.

Commissioning

The process of verifying that a newly installed or upgraded solar system is operating safely and performing as designed.

DC (Direct Current)

The type of electricity generated by solar modules before being converted into AC electricity by an inverter.

Diagnostic Assessment

EV Charger

String Inverter

An inverter connected to multiple solar modules wired in series to form a string.

Thermal Event

An overheating condition within electrical equipment that may result from component failure, damaged wiring, poor connections, or other system issues requiring investigation.

Utility Interconnection

The process of connecting a solar energy system to the local electric utility and receiving approval to operate.
