Program summary

Access New York Wholesale Energy Markets Through a NYISO Aggregation

The New York Independent System Operator’s Distributed Energy Resource Aggregation model allows eligible distributed resources, including energy storage, to participate in NYISO-administered wholesale electricity markets through a registered aggregator.

How the Program Works

A registered NYISO aggregator groups eligible facilities and operates them as a single market resource. Depending on their composition and capabilities, aggregations may qualify for the Energy, Ancillary Services, and Installed Capacity markets. Participants must follow applicable NYISO dispatch and performance requirements. NYISO settles market activity with the aggregator rather than each individual facility.

Compensation and Eligibility

  • Compensation is market-based and varies with cleared prices, bids, services provided, aggregator terms, and measured performance; NYISO does not publish a fixed homeowner incentive.
  • Each offered transaction must meet a 100 kW aggregation minimum for each response type, while each participating DER or applicable asset generally must meet a 10 kW minimum capability.
  • Facilities must be located in the New York Control Area and meet applicable interconnection, metering, telemetry, and performance requirements.
  • Participation is arranged through a registered NYISO aggregator and is subject to review by the applicable distribution utility.

How to Enroll

Contact a registered aggregator serving the applicable New York utility territory to determine whether the site and equipment can join a qualifying NYISO aggregation. Follow the Battery Incentive Program Enrollment Guide for Tigo enrollment steps. Review the official NYISO Aggregation Manual for current market, registration, and enrollment requirements.
