Support Texas Grid Reliability Through ERCOT Emergency Response Service

ERCOT Emergency Response Service (ERS) pays qualified scheduling entities to arrange for residential, commercial, and industrial participants to reduce electricity use or increase generation during a grid emergency. Leap provides an aggregation pathway for eligible Texas sites, subject to current ERS requirements and Leap enrollment terms.

How the Program Works

ERCOT may deploy ERS to help prevent or reduce the need for system-wide load shedding during an actual or anticipated Energy Emergency Alert. Participating resources commit an agreed amount of capacity and must respond within either 10 minutes under ERS-10 or 30 minutes under ERS-30. ERCOT procures ERS four times per program year for December–March, April–May, June–September, and October–November contract terms.

Incentive and Eligibility

  • Compensation is determined through ERCOT procurement and the participant’s agreement with Leap; ERCOT does not publish a fixed residential payment.
  • Residential, commercial, and industrial loads and eligible generators may participate individually or as part of an aggregation through a qualified scheduling entity.
  • Participants must be located in the ERCOT region and meet applicable metering, telemetry, qualification, availability, and performance requirements.
  • Enrolled resources must deliver their committed response within the applicable 10- or 30-minute requirement when dispatched.
