Program summary

Stabilize the Massachusetts Grid. Earn Valuable Annual Incentives.

Join the ConnectedSolutions Battery Demand Response Program and turn your stored solar energy into a valuable revenue stream while enhancing grid stability across Massachusetts. This program allows residential customers to leverage their home battery storage to help reduce peak electricity demand, minimizing reliance on expensive, polluting power plants during critical summer hours.

By enrolling your Tigo GO Optimized Energy Storage System (ESS), you contribute clean, renewable energy to support electric utilities during periods of high demand, earning substantial compensation in return

The Tigo Advantage

The Tigo GO Optimized ESS with the GO Battery is engineered for seamless, efficient participation in performance-based programs like ConnectedSolutions.

  • Modular & Scalable: The Tigo GO Battery offers modular capacity in 5 kWh increments, allowing systems to scale up to 30 kWh,, ensuring you have the right capacity to maximize both home backup and program participation.
  • Optimal Efficiency: The system utilizes a DC-coupled battery configuration, which is 5% more efficient than AC-coupled designs, ensuring you get the most usable energy from every charge and discharge cycle.
  • Unmatched Control: The entire Tigo GO ESS solution is managed under the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) platform. This integrated platform allows you to monitor performance and securely connect your Tigo home battery to utility programs, contributing energy bursts when the grid requires it most.

How the ConnectedSolutions Program Works

ConnectedSolutions is one of the most lucrative battery demand response programs in the country.

When electricity demand is high, typically during hot summer afternoons, Massachusetts electric utilities all "demand response events".

If an event is called, your Tigo GO Battery automatically responds by discharging stored power to the grid. Events occur no more than 60 times a year, for a maximum of three hours per event, typically between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. from June through September. You will usually be able to see when events have been scheduled via the Grid Services section of your Tigo EI App, usually by 6 p.m. ET the day before the event.

Compensation: Participants receive an annual performance incentive based on the average power (kW) they deliver during all demand response events throughout the summer season.

Massachusetts customers for Eversource typically receive an incentive averaging $275/kW annually. For example, a 10 kWh battery system could be eligible to earn incentives of around $900 each summer in Massachusetts.

Stay in Control and Ensure Backup Power

You remain in control of your battery system at all times.

Participation is 100% optional. While participation in all events maximizes earnings, you can opt out of any individual event with no penalty using the Tigo EI App or by notifying your aggregator.

To preserve your energy supply for grid outages, you can adjust your Battery Discharge Limit within the Tigo EI App. It is recommended to set this limit to 20% or less to maximize incentive earnings while preserving battery energy for potential power outages. Furthermore, utilities typically advise that they will not call demand response events before or during major storms that could cause widespread outages.

Steps to enroll

If you have a Tigo GO Optimized ESS installed, you can enroll now:

  1. Open the Tigo Energy Intelligence app or website.
  2. Tap on your system to view details.
  3. Go to the Settings menu and select "Battery Incentive Program".
  4. Select the relevant program, review the details, and tap "Enroll".
  5. Enter your required information and tap "Submit".

You will be notified once your enrollment is approved by the utility.

FAQs

Below are most frequently asked questions about this program.

Who is eligible to participate in the ConnectedSolutions Battery Demand Response Program in Massachusetts?

Participants receive an annual performance incentive based on the average power (measured in kilowatts or “kW”) that they deliver during the demand response events each summer season. For customers of Eversource and National Grid in Massachusetts, the average annual incentive is $275/kW. For example, a system with 10 kWh of usable energy capacity is estimated to be eligible to earn incentives of around $900 annually in Massachusetts. The utility company is responsible for paying all incentive payments.

How much can I earn through the ConnectedSolutions program?

Demand response events occur during the summer season, which runs from June through September each year. Participants can expect no more than 60 events a year, with each event lasting a maximum of three hours. Events typically take place between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m..

When do ConnectedSolutions demand response events occur?

Demand response events occur during the summer season, which runs from June through September each year. Participants can expect no more than 60 events a year, with each event lasting a maximum of three hours. Events typically take place between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m..

Will participating in the program reduce the backup power available to my home?

You keep the functionality of your Tigo GO Battery, including backup power. Only a portion of your stored energy is used during an event, and you can adjust your Battery Discharge Limit—recommended between 10% and 20%—to reserve energy for potential grid outages. Additionally, participating utilities attempt to avoid calling events when extreme weather is forecasted that could lead to widespread grid outages.

How and when are the incentive payments received?

Incentives are performance-based, calculated based on your average power contribution (kW) during all demand response events throughout the season. Payments are distributed directly by your electric utility company after the end of the demand response season, typically within a few months, and participants usually receive their payment in December following the season. If your battery does not participate in an event (due to being offline, opting out, or inability to discharge), you receive a value of 0 kW for that event, reducing your annual incentive.
