Power Puerto Rico. Earn Rewards.

Join the next generation of energy management in Puerto Rico and help secure a brighter energy future. The LUMA Customer Battery Energy Sharing (CBES) program offers residential and commercial customers a way to leverage their home battery storage to support the electric grid during critical periods, earning valuable compensation in the process,.

By enrolling your Tigo GO Optimized Energy Storage System (ESS), you contribute clean, renewable energy exactly when the grid needs it, helping to improve service reliability and minimize potential load shedding impacts for all customers,,.

The Tigo Advantage

The Tigo GO Optimized ESS with the GO Battery is built for seamless participation in programs like CBES.

  • Modular & Scalable: The Tigo GO Battery offers modular capacity in 5 kWh increments, allowing systems to scale up to 30 kWh,, ensuring you have the right capacity to maximize both home backup and program participation.
  • Optimal Efficiency: The system utilizes a DC-coupled battery configuration, which is 5% more efficient than AC-coupled designs, ensuring you get the most usable energy from every charge and discharge cycle.
  • Unmatched Control: The entire Tigo GO ESS solution is managed under the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) platform,. This integrated platform allows you to monitor performance and securely connect your Tigo home battery to utility programs, contributing energy bursts when the grid requires it most,.

How the CBES Program Works

The CBES program is a next-generation solution approved by the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (PREB) to progress from a pilot to a full program,.

When the utility forecasts that power needs will exceed the available generation supply or peak reserve levels, a “CBES event” may be scheduled. Participants in the program will be notified in advance.

If an event is called, your Tigo GO Battery automatically responds. You do not have to take manual action; the Tigo Energy Intelligence software platform will automatically trigger the export of stored energy from your enrolled battery to your home or the grid.

Compensation: Participants are compensated for the energy provided during CBES events and information will be provided via email once enrolled.  Your total payment depends on the specific contract terms and the amount of energy discharged during each event.

Stay in Control and Ensure Backup Power

You always remain in control of your stored energy. Only a portion of your stored energy will be exported during an event, ensuring you maintain a reserve for backup power, as specified by you, the customer,.

We recommend adjusting your Battery Discharge Limit to 20% or less to maximize your incentive earnings while preserving battery energy for potential power outages. Furthermore, LUMA Energy has advised they will not call demand response events before or during major storms that could result in widespread grid power outages, helping you keep your batteries fully charged for potential resilience,.

Steps to enroll

If you have a Tigo GO Optimized ESS installed, you can enroll now:

  1. Open the Tigo Energy Intelligence app or website.
  2. Tap on your system to view details.
  3. Go to the Settings menu and select "Battery Incentive Program".
  4. Select the LUMA CBES program, review the details, and tap "Enroll".
  5. Enter your required information and tap "Submit".

FAQs

Below are most frequently asked questions about this program.

Who is eligible to participate in the LUMA Customer Battery Energy Sharing (CBES) Program?

Participants are compensated by their Aggregator, and the payment terms are defined by the contract established between the customer and the Aggregator. The total payment is dependent on the amount of energy supplied from the customer’s battery during each CBES event. Other participants in the program are eligible for a performance incentive of $1.00 for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery energy discharged during events, with payments typically sent out within a few months after the end of each quarter.

How much will I get paid for participating in the CBES program?

Participants can expect between 75 and 100 demand response events annually, which are expected to average about two hours each. Events can occur any day of the year, excluding holidays, but are primarily focused between April and December,. Events most often occur between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., although they can be called at other times.

When do CBES events typically occur, and how long do they last?

Participants can expect between 75 and 100 demand response events annually, which are expected to average about two hours each. Events can occur any day of the year, excluding holidays, but are primarily focused between April and December,. Events most often occur between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., although they can be called at other times.

Can I opt out of an event, and will participation affect my ability to use my battery for backup power?

Participation in demand response events is 100% optional, and you may opt out of any event at any time with no penalty by notifying your aggregator or using their platform,,. To protect your backup power, only a portion of the energy in your Tigo GO Battery will be used during an event, ensuring a customer-specified backup reserve is maintained. You can adjust your Battery Discharge Limit (recommended at 20%) to reserve energy for yourself in case of a grid outage.

How are the incentive payments calculated?

Your incentive payment is calculated by the Program Aggregator and LUMA based on the total energy (kWh) discharged from your battery over the course of all events in a given quarter,. If your battery does not participate in an event—whether due to being offline, opting out, or inability to discharge—you will receive a value of 0 kWh for that event, which will reduce your overall performance incentive for the quarter
